Wednesday, October 1st, 1980: Star MR Signs Pact with Bombers
Team officials triumphantly announced that the Bombers and superstar reliever Max Quiroz have closed a deal that keeps the 31-year-old in a Columbia uniform for another 2 years.

Quiroz will earn $6,500,000 as part of the settlement.

In 1980, Quiroz has made 50 relief appearances, recorded 3 saves and compiled a 8-6 won-lost mark and a 4.80 ERA. In pitching 54.1 innings, he has totaled 63 strikeouts and 16 walks.
Saturday, September 6th, 1980: Ruckus Reaps 4-Game Suspensions
You would have thought you were at a hockey game yesterday at Capital City Stadium. A free-for-all broke out when Craig Williams of Columbia and Alfredo Sánchez of Superior rushed one another on the field and had to be restrained by umpires and teammates. Few blows landed, but it was enough for them to be ejected from the game.

Today both teams received notification from the league office that the two players would be suspended for 4 games.

Williams is batting .323 this season in 138 games with 7 home runs, 59 RBIs and 92 runs scored. He has 174 hits in 539 at-bats.

This year Sánchez has worked 72.1 innings with 84 strikeouts en route to a 2-6 record and a 7.96 ERA.
Monday, August 18th, 1980: WL Announces Player of the Week

The scrappy Columbia Bombers center fielder hit .474 while collecting 9 hits in 19 at-bats, 3 home runs and 7 RBIs.

This season Conejo has hit at a .280 clip with 62 RBIs, 17 home runs and 77 runs scored.
