| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, October 1st, 1980: Star MR Signs Pact with Bombers Team officials triumphantly announced that the Bombers and superstar reliever Max Quiroz have closed a deal that keeps the 31-year-old in a Columbia uniform for another 2 years.
Quiroz will earn $6,500,000 as part of the settlement.
In 1980, Quiroz has made 50 relief appearances, recorded 3 saves and compiled a 8-6 won-lost mark and a 4.80 ERA. A free-for-all broke out when Craig Williams of Columbia and Alfredo Sánchez of Superior rushed one another on the field and had to be restrained by umpires and teammates. Few blows landed, but it was enough for them to be ejected from the game.
Today both teams received notification from the league office that the two players would be suspended for 4 games.
Williams is batting .323 this season in 138 games with 7 home runs, 59 RBIs and 92 runs scored. He has 174 hits in 539 at-bats.
This year Sánchez has worked 72.1 innings with 84 strikeouts en route to a 2-6 record and a 7.96 ERA. |  | Monday, August 18th, 1980: WL Announces Player of the Week His hard work and hustle paid off this week. The hard-working and hard-playing Alex Conejo was rewarded with the Williams League Player of the Week honors.
