Friday, September 12th, 1980: Big Day with Bat: Robichaud 5-5
Simon-Pier Robichaud put on a hitting clinic today as the Empire dumped the Eagles 14-2 at The Colliseum. The New York right fielder sprayed hits all over the ballpark by lashing Chattooga pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats in the game.

He told BNN reporters after the game that he just hit it where they pitched it. "Too often I try to pull the ball too much. Today I just went with the pitch."

S. Robichaud hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off S. Cox in the 6th and hit an RBI double in the 7th.

Robichaud is hitting .299 in 1980 with 41 home runs, 103 RBIs and 77 runs scored. He has 123 hits in 411 at-bats and played in 116 games.
Friday, September 5th, 1980: 15-K Masterpiece for Carrasco
It was a very special game for Pancho Carrasco today at The Roundhouse in Chessie. He had the perfect delivery. The good fastball. The nasty curve. The batters mumbling and muttering when they swung and missed. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it. In an unforgettable performance the 25-year-old Carrasco fanned 15 strikeouts Empire and sparked the Chessie Ironhorse to a 4-1 victory over New York.

His catcher commented, "I don't think I have seen him throw better. His location and command were really something."

In addition to his 15 strikeouts, Johnson allowed 4 hits and 2 walks in a superlative outing.

His manager added, "It's a manager's day off when you get pitching like that."

The New York skipper had no comment that was printable in the newspaper.

In 1980, Carrasco has chalked up 22 wins and 6 losses in 30 starts with 221 strikeouts in 236 innings and a 1.79 ERA.
Monday, September 1st, 1980: August's Top Hurler is Samuels
Mark Samuels nailed down August's Mays League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on New York to get a deal done before the 37-year-old becomes a free agent.

Samuels seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 5-0 record, reeled off 38 strikeouts, worked 39.1 innings and held batters to a .161 average for the month as he posted a 1.14 ERA.

This year Samuels has registered 15 wins and 7 losses in 28 starts with a 2.16 ERA while registering 168 strikeouts and 30 walks in 208.2 innings.
