There's nothing like being in the prime of your baseball career -- and playing like it. Just ask Neil Howe, the Halifax right fielder, who swung a sweet bat all week to not only aid his team, but also pick up the Mays League Player of the Week honors.
Howe piled up 12 hits in 21 at-bats, 2 home runs and 6 RBIs while hitting .571.
Howe is presently hitting at a .257 pace with 33 home runs, 92 RBIs and has scored 96 times.

It was a very special game for Edward Lane today at Alexander Keith's Park in Halifax. He had the perfect delivery. The good fastball. The nasty curve. The batters mumbling and muttering when they swung and missed. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it. In an unforgettable performance the 28-year-old Lane fanned 17 strikeouts Buzz and sparked the Halifax Atlantics to a 6-0 victory over Vienna.
His catcher commented, "I don't think I have seen him throw better. His location and command were really something."
In addition to his 17 strikeouts, Johnson allowed 2 hits and 3 walks in a superlative outing.
His manager added, "It's a manager's day off when you get pitching like that."
The Vienna skipper had no comment that was printable in the newspaper.
In 1980 Lane has compiled a 17-5 mark with a 3.06 ERA in 42 starts. In pitching 232.2 innings he has 326 strikeouts and 87 walks while limiting the opposition to a .207 batting average.

It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. Cristobal Puñal, the Halifax Atlantics 25-year-old center fielder, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for Mays League Player of the Week honors.
He ripped 8 hits in 23 at-bats, compiling a .348 average with 4 home runs and 10 RBIs.
Puñal is currently hitting at a .275 pace with 35 home runs, 83 RBIs and has scored 97 times.
