| Breaking News |  | Saturday, September 27th, 1980: Star SP Signs Extension with Mexico City Mexico City fans celebrated as word of a signing became reality. Gabriel Newman won't be pulling up stakes anytime soon, as he has signed a 4-year extension at a pay rate of $4,665,000 per annum.
Since he is widely seen as an integral part of the club, Mexico City officials had to keep Newman from jumping ship.
In 1980 Newman has compiled a 9-7 mark with a 4.16 ERA in 24 starts. In pitching 160 innings he has 184 strikeouts and 48 walks while limiting the opposition to a .224 batting average. |  | Thursday, September 18th, 1980: 5-6 Day for Breton 5 hits in a game doesn't happen every day. Latrobe's Alfonso Breton had a very special day against the Aztecs when everything came together for him and he did just that -- collected 5 hits in 6 at-bats -- and led the Latrobe Lightning to a 13-3 win at 33 Field.
"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Breton said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."
A. Breton singled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off J. Richards in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off S. Ramírez in the 9th.
In his season totals Breton has 15 home runs and a .244 batting average. |  | Sunday, September 14th, 1980: Mexico City's Cranford Reaches 2000 Hits Randy Cranford reached the 2000-hit milestone this afternoon at Medicine Hat Park. The 37-year-old Aztecs left fielder went 1-for-4 in a losing effort in the Mexico City 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Chattooga Eagles.
Cranford is hitting .290 during his 1835-game career.
