| Breaking News | | Saturday, September 20th, 1980: Un-four-gettable: Troiano Hits for Cycle South Beach's Dallas Troiano accomplished what few others have been able to do -- he hit for the cycle. In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that order is known as a "natural cycle."
For the day he finished 4-5 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored and helped his Sunburn knock off the Homer Yetis 9-1 at Bayfront Park. In the postgame press conference he said, "I didn't even know I had hit for the cycle until after the game."
D. Troiano singled in the 2nd, tripled in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off T. Reese in the 7th and doubled in the 8th.
Currently Troiano has 48 home runs and a .301 batting average. | | Monday, September 15th, 1980: Season Possibly Over for Ronny Stowe The news is bad in Homer. The Yetis have lost the services of right fielder Ronny Stowe for the rest of the season due to a fractured cheekbone. Stowe was injured in a recent game with the Falls Church Frenzy while being hit by a pitch and is expected to miss 2 months.
Thus far this year Stowe is batting .248 with 34 home runs, 80 RBIs and 98 runs scored. | | Wednesday, September 10th, 1980: Number 2500 for Cribb Roscoe Cribb of the Purcellville Peacocks collected career hit number 2500 against the Homer Yetis today. The 39-year-old right fielder went 3 for 4 in a 8-3 Purcellville victory at Peacock's Roost.
During his career Cribb has compiled a .286 batting average and collected 2502 hits, 527 home runs and 1704 RBIs. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | RF Ronny Stowe | fractured cheekbone | 7-8 weeks | 46 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 85-77, .525 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 17.0 GB | | Record at home | 45-36, .556 PCT | | Record on the road | 40-41, .494 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 7-5, .583 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 24-20, .545 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 24-23, .511 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 61-54, .530 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 11-17, .393 PCT | | Record in May | 18-11, .621 PCT | | Record in June | 11-14, .440 PCT | | Record in July | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in August | 17-11, .607 PCT | | Record in September | 12-11, .522 PCT |
