During the regular season he slapped out hits at a .376 pace (201-534) to win the honor. The 28-year-old Superior catcher played in 142 games and had 47 home runs, 125 RBIs and scored 134 runs. |  | Monday, September 22nd, 1980: Week's Best Player: Superior's Rivero Roman Rivero demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Williams League Player of the Week Award.
The Superior third baseman wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .556 average (15-27) with 5 home runs and 17 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor.
Rivero is swinging at a .308 pace on the year with 32 home runs, 131 RBIs and 93 runs scored. He has played in 153 games. |  | Saturday, September 6th, 1980: Ruckus Reaps 4-Game Suspensions You would have thought you were at a hockey game yesterday at Capital City Stadium. A free-for-all broke out when Craig Williams of Columbia and Alfredo Sánchez of Superior rushed one another on the field and had to be restrained by umpires and teammates. Few blows landed, but it was enough for them to be ejected from the game.
Today both teams received notification from the league office that the two players would be suspended for 4 games.
Williams is batting .323 this season in 138 games with 7 home runs, 59 RBIs and 92 runs scored. He has 174 hits in 539 at-bats.
