| Breaking News | | Monday, June 6th, 1977: Injury Takes Toll, Troiano Out Dallas Troiano at first refused to leave today's Spalding-South Beach game after he suffered a hyperextended knee while making a defensive play. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I want to be on the field," the feisty South Beach center fielder said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Troiano out of action for 3-4 weeks.
Troiano currently has a .295 batting average with 66 hits, 14 homers, 60 RBIs, 37 runs scored and a .383 OBP. | | Wednesday, May 18th, 1977: South Beach's Sommers Shines, Shuts out New Glarus William Sommers really wowed everybody at the ballpark with his 10-0 shutout victory over New Glarus today. The South Beach pitcher mystified the Brewmasters in a strong performance. He gave up 3 hits and totaled 2 walks and 5 strikeouts.
His manager said, "William had them chasing a lot of pitches and turning around and saying 'wow'... we were thinking the same thing, too. It was something special to watch."
In the current season in 9 starts, William Sommers has a record of 6-3 with 52 strikeouts in 67.2 innings and a 2.39 ERA. | | Sunday, May 8th, 1977: Sarmiento Injured, Day-to-Day Sunburn star reliever David Sarmiento may be sitting it out a few days after he picked up an injury in yesterday's game against the Columbia Bombers. He sustained a strained back muscle while throwing a pitch. Sarmiento isn't expected to miss a lot of time. However, doctors want to be cautious. They said he would be day-to-day for about 1-2 weeks.
In 1977 Sarmiento has delivered 2 saves in 13 relief appearances. He has 16 strikeouts in 18.1 innings with a 1.47 ERA and a 0-0 mark. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | CF Dallas Troiano | hyperextended knee | 3 weeks | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 40-23, .635 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 18-13, .581 PCT | | Record on the road | 22-10, .688 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 2-3, .400 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 6-7, .462 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 13-7, .650 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 27-16, .628 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 15-12, .556 PCT | | Record in May | 18-10, .643 PCT | | Record in June | 7-1, .875 PCT |
