Re: FA rolls: suggestion for simplifying tedium for commish
I didn't explicitly say to do so, but some folks already have and I see no time like the present to give the in-game system a shot.

Re: FA rolls: suggestion for simplifying tedium for commish
I am not at all happy about this decision.
But I will give the in game system a stab. I think that negotiating contracts during the season affects player morale (correct?), which I now think affects how they perform.
Can you update the rules page so that everyone else knows about this impromptu change?

Re: FA rolls: suggestion for simplifying tedium for commish
How are player rolls done in this system? Before I believe you rolled dice to see if they would resign or not. What does the game do?
In your orginal post is t said players could break off negotiations from receiving low ball contract offers. Couldn't a manager playwith low ball offers, not export their file if the player breaks of negotiations, then continue with additional offers when they import the new file?
That's all I can think of. I assume there is something I don't know about that explains these questions. I just don't want to see dead FA pools in years to come.

Re: FA rolls: suggestion for simplifying tedium for commish
There are no player rolls. I'm not sure I agree with the system of
letting the game handle it becasue Vienna resigned every FA on the team
w/o any issues at all. Is that what we want? Or am I just lucky that
the upcoming FAs on my team decided to play nice? I really don't know.
All I know is that I had 0 issues signing my own FAs. Am I lucky? I
kind of doubt that, but I don't really know.
However, I do think it'd be much more diffucult to game the system
since the d/l is through the client now and i wouldn't know how to d/l
it outside the client if there were a way. So, in essence, what I'm
saying is that I do not think someone could lowball offers, get
rejected, and then copy over the files again to start from scratch. How
would you do that with the current server/client relationship? No way
to get a fresh copy to oevrwrite the old FAIK. Maybe I'm wrong. Dunno.
But, if there is no practical way to overwrite the league/team files
then I don't know if it's a problem. Should be ok I think.
Couldn't a manager playwith low ball offers, not export their file if
the player breaks of negotiations, then continue with additional offers
when they import the new file?
Well, yes I don't think there is much that can be done about that issue if we use the in-game engine.
(For full disclosure purposes, Vienna easily resigned all the players
they wanted to resign. Personally (and I mentioned this before), I
believe it is too easy to resign players in the game engine. I had
absoluteky zero issues resigning the guys I wanted. They all told me
what they wanted and, going from there, I signed extensions with no
problems. Was I just lucky? No clue.)

Re: FA rolls: suggestion for simplifying tedium for commish
It sounds like using the in game negotiation method is going to make for a very poor FA pool each off season. I think that takes a whole lot of fun out of the league. Then again, I don't have a complete grasp of how it works, or how likely players are to refuse negotiations. I think given several team's experience with it thus far, this change in FA rolls should be reconsidered. Just my two cents.

Re: FA rolls: suggestion for simplifying tedium for commish
We're going to give the in game system a shot for at least this year, but maybe more. We really need to find out whether it's viable, and IMO, this is the only way to do it.
I don't, and I doubt anyone else does, have time to completely simulate this league for a year and attempt to resign every potential FA on every team.
We may find that the FA pool is weak after trying this. If it's weak enough, then we'll have to reconsider. However, this game is supposed to be very realistic, so it SHOULD create a realistic FA pool...we'll see if that's the case.
As far as gaming the game, if people want to, anyone can cheat. I operate on the assumption that we're all adults and have too much respect for the league and eachother to cheat like that. I'm really not going to worry about that aspect of the game at this point.
FYI, it did happen that the old roll system gave some owners lucky breaks in the past, and they either resigned everyone or all but one, so it's not unheard of at all.
Let's give the in-game processes a shot and see how it goes. We can always reconsider and go back to the drawing board if the in-game system is not realistic or not giving us the results we want.

Re: FA rolls: suggestion for simplifying tedium for commish
FYI, the one player on my team I'd want to re-sign just told me he's going to test the FA market, so there's that...
Make that 3 guys...looks fairly normal to the Yetis as far as FA goes heh.
