    Ok, ok I get it...

my team isn't very good.  But DAMN OOTP2007 is killin' me, it's killin' I tell ya.   Just a year and a half out from a decent playoff run with essentually the same team minus some geezers, add some decent talent and Chessie is the doormat of the league.  Could it be that my team wasn't that good in 1972 and just got hot and lucky at the right time, sure I suppose so.  The problem with that reasoning is that Bowie has followed me down in the dumps.  A team by most accounts that should be contending for the division title and World Series for many years to come (the bastages) has fallen to the OOTP2007 curse as well.  So what can be done about this plague, this menace to society, this fungus upon the toenail of the Chessie Ironhorse?  Not a damn thing.  But at least I can vent to all and sundry and maybe one day, one day long in the future, I'll actually be smart enough to keep my first round draft pick.

    NAH!

Thank you for listening to the ramblings of BBL madman,

Nothing to do with your topic, but taking this quote out of context works well for my purposes. This version of the game, while cool, sure is a big pain in the ass. It is SOOOO hard to find stuff in it. It's not intuitive at all and it's way beyond information overload on those player profile pages.

I'm getting burned out on the game trying to figure out this UI.

    (While we are ranting...)

I definitely started out feeling that way marduk.  But i think i'm starting to get used to it.  I spent an hour or so poking around the other night when my baby was up late fussing.  I think I'm starting to get an understanding of how to find what i'm looking for.  There's lots of information there.. you just need to figure out how to screen it for what you want, and what the best way is to get to that.

and it doesn't hurt that my team is playing well.  :)

I come out of this feeling like I did with TPF, completely overwhelmed and not at all interested in all the clutter. The 2006 demo was 100x worse to me, but still this UI is a long way from usable to me ...

It feels more like a spreadsheet with volumes of hyperlinks than an application with natural workflow.

This really isn't shaping up to be a perfectly awesome season.  And that's kind of frustrating, given where my team is in terms of its development.

yeah, my team sucks and i'm not really sure why.  absolutely ZERO offense.  The conversion really killed  G. White, for whatever reason, as well.  He was a solid no. 3 pitcher.  Now he's AAA material.

Interestingly, the Mays league ERA is a full 0.4 points lower than the Williams league.  That's a really big difference.  Any thoughts on why?

Also, WTF, Thornton pitched a no-hitter for Spalding.  I am so regretting that trade.  Grypht, how do you always pull these things off?

    I'm some kind of warlock.

Sorry it hasn't worked out for you yet, man.  Hopefully those guys will become studs at some point.  Thornton has done exactly what I hoped he'd do, become an ace for me.  Although his Stuff appears to have declined a bit in the new version, which is too bad.

I agree.  I just do not have the time to pore through all of the info.

I also thought that my team was going to suck this season.  But I am seeing some surprise performances out of several players, which lead me to believe that the conversion has futzed around with a few players across the board.

Of course now that I have lost a couple of infielders for the season, I am going to return to suckage.

Re: Ok, ok I get it...

the key for me was to spend a little time with it (took me about 2 hours to get to this point) and pick a few key reports that are the most important for me to see.

Then I know how to access those, and get the info i want.. and I can ignore the rest of the extraneous stuff, unless i'm really in the mood to dig into something.  Also, one of my favorite things to do is go through the box scores of my games, and that format is almost exactly the same as in previous versions.

anyway, i'd suggest distilling what you want from the interface down into a few manageable components, and then use those extensively.  That worked very well for me.

Re: Ok, ok I get it...

Some of the main annoyances for me are around setting lineups, rotations, player strategies, etc.

There's no easy way to set these things at the same time as seeing the important data. For example if I go set my RHB lineup, I should be able to do like in 6.5 and filter my players stats vs RHB in line. I'm just so spoiled to having a good interface for setting lineups and rotations that when they screwed with it, it's really far inferior. First I have to run a report or filter results, then I have to cross reference my lineups to the stats by looking up the player by his name. Before it was all in line on the lineup cards. Same thing for rotation, although at least they give you ERA in line there.

The player strategy stuff took me forever to find and there are so many new settings on that that it just about freaked me out :P

Mostly though I miss the old way of setting lineup, depth, and rotations. And then seeing a simplistic look at the player talents would be nice too ... stars are and always have been pointless to me other than for superfluous 'how does he rank globally' kind of thoughts. Seeing a graphical representation of how good a player is at a certain skill using a colored bar like before was a great idea. Color coded numbers on a screen full of color coded numbers, eh, notsomuch. I can make more sense out of linear algebraic matrix math numbers strewn about the screen easier than my mind can really interpret the player ratings screens as to how they were before.

And I'm not saying it's unusable, I'm just saying that it's stll a long way from ideal IMO ... very much the same as TPF to me.

Re: Ok, ok I get it...

Yeah, the single most annoying thing in the game is that you can't see and sort the lineup stats beside the player any more. I'm hopeful that Markus will release an alternate view in the patch to take care of this, but I don't know.

There was a lot of discussion about this on the boards, and during Beta and development, the majority of the players wanted the current layout. There is a lot of information and limited real estate, so this is what they ended up with.

It is very annoying to have to select Split, vs Right hand or vs left hand each time you want to check them out...having the stats next to the player in the lineup was a far superior way to handle things from my perspective.

I'd love to see an option to see the stats beside your players, for one thing.

I do miss the bar view on player ratings too.
