What's the story on stadium capacity?

Towards the end of last season I was trying to look in to the various stadiums and I can't seem to find the seating on them in-game. I found a tool that lets you edit the stadiums in the league and what not and it appears that we have some fluctuation in capacity. Now that I've formatted my old PC and lost the tool, I just wanted to find out what the rule was on seating.

I think I remember that Bradford had a large capacity stadium in comparison to most teams and maybe Boston and a few others as well. Are we allowed to add capacity and what's the cost if so? Grypht, do you recall what our rules were?

from what i remember... originally we were allowed to increase our stadium capacity using the points we earned from writing articles.  I know because i did this a couple of times.  At one point, we determined this was overpowered, and grypht reset all stadiums to the same size.  As far as I know, that is our current stance on the issue.. all stadiums should be the same size.

I had a related question though... what about changing stadium dimensions?  I've been tempted lately to make my park just a bit more hitter friendly.  what's our process for doing this?

I believe originally the process was submit dimensions and Grypht would put them in but later Grypht thought some stadiums had outrageous settings and decided to cap some numbers. I can't remember what the cap numbers were, though. I also think that we were supposed to only be able to adjust the park setting once, but perhaps it isn't totally unreasonable to allow say one change in a decade or two for an additional X amount of expense(there shouldn't be people changing park every couple years to adjust to the kind of players they have)

I'd like to request that the teams with stadiums bigger than 43,000 be all set to 43,000 to make things equivalent starting out this season. I know Bradford and Boston have larger stadiums, didn't check many of the other teams though.

Re: What's the story on stadium capacity?

Something needs to be done to "level the playing field", but rather than reducing some ballparks' capacities, perhaps all stadiums should be set to the highest capacity currently in use.  Lowering someone's capacity could very well wreck their budget.  I'd rather see the positive affect of some teams having increased reveune due to more capacity rather than having some teams suffer a sudden drop in revenue due to a league-wide change.  You don't really have to plan for an unexpectedly large boost to revenue - its just a nice bonus.  But you'd definitely have to take into consideration a large drop in revenue, and it would be fairly hard to plan for.

This brings up the question of fairness...should we allow teams to modify their dimensions to meet whatever their lineup favors every season? I can't imagine that'd be a good idea.

I don't recall having rules in place to prevent this kind of thing...should we only allow stadium changes on owner changes or every so many seasons?

[edit: Just went back and re-read Love's post...yeah, everyone X years for some amount of expenses would be fairly realistic. We'd just need to arrive at some reasonably realistic price tag for stadium changes, and the frequency at which they could happen. Ideally I'd like this to be based on sort of what these numbers normally happen to be in MLB, but we could always arrive at what we think is fair.
