    1972 Hall of Fame Nominations

    Post 'em here!

For retirees from 1972, look at the top of this list.

Re: 1972 Hall of Fame Nominations

I think Grypht was right, but I don't have a thread reference.

Dunno if I'm out of order nominating another team's retiree, and one that retired last year at that, but I nominate Gas Can Boyd for the HoF.  I think Boyd retired midseason 72 or was missed at the nomination phase.

4th all time in Wins.  2 time PotY.  Rookie of the Year.  Key to 2 pennant wins.  5 time all star.  21 game winner once, 9 times over .500 for GLO and OP, both teams which danced around .500 a majority of the time.  Consistantly the best pitcher on his team for 14 years, and always in the mix for Mays PotY.

Sorry Jarien, I think you're wrong on this one.

I sure think Nicklas should be in the HoF.  Even the game thinks so!

Re: 1972 Hall of Fame Nominations

I am nominating Billy Long, the very 1st prospect picked in the draft (aside from the original league establishing one).

Pros:  He has one Championship ring, 4 gold gloves, and is a 5 time All Star.  He is in the top 10 in 9 categories (runs-8th, hits-8th, RBI-4th, HRs-7th, triples-4th, and total bases-4th to name the significant ones).  He is also 12th in XR (which I believe is runs created), and 25th in overall win shares.

Cons: his .260 career BA; and the fact that while he was a very good all around player, he did not really stick out.  He also had a gradual decline in ability until his retirement last season.

Quite honestly, I am not sure if I will even vote for him.  But he is a good player deserving of a nomination.

If he retired mid-season, it looks like the Catobase didn't get his last bit of stats (which I've seen happen elsewhere).
