If we did the June draft this year, I don't think we should base the order on the previous year's won/loss record. We already had a draft based on those standings. While it would certainly benefit Texas to have another first overall selection, they should have to earn that! ;-) (Though, they are well on their way, especially with losing their young, up-and-coming cleanup hitter for the season because he can't round the bases without tripping over one...)
Seriously though, we should consider some other method for determining draft order if we are to do the June draft this year. Either a random order, as was suggested earlier, or perhaps something involving the current standings. If we wanted to get sophisticated, we could do some sort of weighted lottery thing to determine draft order (maybe based on current standings). That's more work though, so I'd be fine with random as well.
Zayx is right in that it certainly wouldn't hurt to throw in an extra draft. Even with the "banner crop" of draftees two seasons ago, looking through the league there aren't a ton of really strong farm systems. It seems like there are even fewer good prospects now in OOTP2007, though I'm sure the ratings system has something to do with that. The upcoming draft class is pretty average on talent, too, so I don't think it will turn BBL into an all-star league. And I do like splitting up the draft and FA. As long as the draft doesn't slow down the progress of the season, I think it will help to make the off-season easier to manage. Our off-seasons sometimes seem to drag on a bit after the first few days...
I guess we could skip this year's draft all together since we already did one in the off-season... but then you ruin some kid's dream of being drafted!
