Boston trades:
CF Ricardo Saenz
SP Michael 'Cobra' Driggs
to New York for:
3B Jacky Cruz (AAA)
LF Leopoldo Benevides (AAA)
1976 1st round pick
1976 2nd round pick
1977 2nd round pick
*Note: I'm assuming 1976 is the upcoming draft, since we already did the 1975 draft. Wanted to clarify since I'm guessing we are doing the draft in this offseason again.
New York GM Caelon's comments on the trade: "During the offseason we felt it was imperative to acquire an impact outfielder to replace the loss of Rudy Harvey and Michael Khan. We also believed that it was critical to acquire a young, talented starter to replace Kenny Araujo and bolster our aging rotation. We paid a steep price, especially in giving up Cruz, who we were very high on. But, in turn, we effectively filled both of our holes with this trade. Ricardo [Saenz] will be a great addition to our outfield and the heart of our order, and we expect Driggs to effectively take the hill every fifth day for a very long time in New York."
